This game is great! The more levels you do, the more upgrades you buy, the game gets better and better!
a little bit of everything
take half the over the topness of saints row, mix it in with the more serious tone of GTA 4 and sprinkle it with some solid Batman several enemy at once reverse anything fighting style and you have Sleeping dogs. In the first hour or so i didnt really see anything that made it stick out from GTA or saints row. Put it down for a few days and tried it again with fresh eyes and more time and it was well worth it. Initially it seems the fighting was klunky, the driving was arcadeish, and the shooting was.... NON EXISTANT... but after i kept playing i started getting better at the fighting. unlocking more moves and appreciating the fact that i could run into a gang and beat down 20 of them with out having to worry about them shooting me while mid jumpkick. you can seemlessly rip through waves of baddies in a veriety of ways. if your hands and feet need a rest, throw an enemy in a trunk of a car or smash his head in with the door. better yet throw him into a dumpster off a balcony. feeling outnumbered when driving up to an enemy hideout? go to the trunk of your car and grab a tire iron. What this game lacks in shooting it makes up for in raw visceral hand to hand kung fu action. There is guns in the game, but few and farbetween. The gun fighting is good, albiet a bit easy once you figure out how to make it go in slow motion but still fun. The story is nothing special, at times you may feel some emotional attachment to one side or the other, but its nothing over the top. the car driving is pretty smooth once you get the hang of it and it is a completely different ball game to loose the cops. instead of outrunning them, there is a buitton you can jam at the right time to ram the police off the road, 2 or 3 good rams and you are home free. and if they get in fron of you you can jump from your car to thiers with ease. For the collectors out there their is a bit of stuff but its almost as if it is handed right to you, so you really dont have to search much, and if you do go off on your own to try and pick up the goodies scattered around the map you will be dissapointed because a lot of it is blocked untill you progress through the story.. Final thoughts this game is fun as heck and a good filler until GTA5 and the next Saints Row.
this kind of looks like shenmu with guns... and if so then hopefully its a good game... i think im going to wait till this one gets a little cheaper
