Way of the Samurai 3
Nostalgic appeal - artistic combat
Some people hate this game - I really enjoy it. Yeah the graphics and interaction with the environment are a bit simplistic, sometimes glitchy. But the appeal for me is that you gotta figure out a lot on your own. The game manual literally tells you eff-ALL but it doesn't matter because with each play-through you gain something new in terms of skills, moves, swords, styles, or different ending, or you kill somebody different which tosses the story-line in a new direction. The combat is tricky as h-ell at times especially getting the hang of parrying, hit satsu, and ren satsu but I really appreciate the challenge of the controls and combinations. The only thing that would improve this game greatly is a sand-box style online setting like Red Dead Redemption where players can challenge each other free-roam style, forming clans and conducting larger battles - maybe they did this in the 4th version which hasn't been released to North America yet. But in a way, the single player is kind of appropriate as an artistic personal journey. I'll be playing this for a while.
