Possibly the worst of the whole Final Fantasy franchise. You can literally almost complete the game by just pushing foward on the joystick and pressing A (on an Xbox360, X on a PS3), that's how linear and repetitive the game is.
To understand the story you have to get through pages and pages of text, which make for the worst storydriving experience.
The only positive things about the game are the graphics (the game is indeed pretty) and the main character : Lighting is cool, but this doesn't make up for the game.

repetitive
This game can be pretty much cleared using only auto attack and paradigm shifts, basically no real skill required, just tons of mind numbingly long hours of grinding. the combat system may seem complex at first but eventually you realize that its actually pretty simple and easy to handle, especially with the computer making all the choices for you with auto attack.

Incredible
Well I don't feel like writing a long review so basically I can some it up in one word. Incredible. Don't believe me? Check reviews all over the web. Although it doesn't tell the story TOO well, it is very good if you read into it and do a bit of research. Fairly long story, lasting me around 200+ hours of gameplay on the campaign alone. (You can go back and do other things after).
I recommend to any non FF fans, it is great.

A pretentious, convoluted narrative.
Final Fantasy XIII is a huge waste of time. Not only does its approach to storytelling completely fail, but its characters are inconsistent and unlikeable. The game doesn't explain its universe at all, forcing you to read through enormous amounts of text in the encyclopedia to try and understand even a single thing of what's going on. THIS IS NOT GOOD STORYTELLING!
The combat system can be passed with just one button, and your teammates can basically win the fight for you. It's hardly engaging. Not to mention it is INCREDIBLY linear. It takes literally 20 hours of completely linear corridors before you hit an open world, and even then, there's not a lot to see or do in it.
The visuals are VERY good on a technical level, but the game completely lacks any artistic direction. It's not sure if it wants to be classic fantasy, bad anime with characters wearing about 17 belts, or cyberpunk. It's far more about spectacle than substance.
There is nothing worth experiencing in this game. The VO is boring. the story is incredibly melodramatic and convoluted, without a cast of characters to make it worth-while. The combat completely lacks engagement from the player, and it's more linear than a one-way highway. This is the perfect exemplification of everything that has gone wrong with the JRPG, becoming more focused and self-righteous about its stylistic flair (not even good stylistic flair) than about creating an immersive experience. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

A must have!
This game is simply amazing. I never played Final Fantasy before and boy, was I in for a surprise. The game was epic. It had an interesting and very compelling story, one you'll defiantly get lost in from the start. The music was also very good and had the best voice acting for any game Ive ever seen. Although one of the characters gets very annoying in the game pretty fast, do to her high pitched voice. The action and fighting in this game is done very well and gets you sucked in. The battles are very flashy too. The one thing I can never get over is how beautiful the graphics are. Every detail is done to perfection, and every new area you go to will take your breath away. It is an amazing game worth every cent. I have played this game on both the systems, and the only real difference is that PS3 has better graphics. But this game is still lovely and deserves recognition. This game is defiantly a must have for the X-box 360.
